IBEW Local 103 & NECA Greater Boston Celebrate First Clean-Energy Pre-Apprenticeship Graduates
NECA Greater Boston and IBEW Local 103 recently marked a milestone with the graduation of the first class from their Clean Energy Pre-Apprentice Program (CEPAP). This 10-week, tuition-free initiative was designed to introduce young adults (ages 18-24) to careers in Massachusetts’ expanding clean energy sector.
Funded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Apprentice Standards, the program provided hands-on training in electric vehicle charging, battery storage, solar, and wind power. Participants gained valuable skills to support the state’s transition to renewable energy while expanding pathways into the electrical industry.
The program was led by the Greater Boston Joint Apprentice Training Center (JATC), offering a strong foundation for those pursuing IBEW Local 103’s full apprenticeship program. With upgraded training facilities and experienced instructors, the JATC is helping develop a workforce ready to meet the growing demand for clean energy solutions.
“This program is preparing the next generation of electricians with the skills needed to support Massachusetts’ clean energy goals,” said Kristen Gowin, Executive Manager of NECA Greater Boston.
