State of the Industry

NECA Boston kicks off our Fall 2026 Education & Training Calendar with a timely and impactful look at the forces shaping today’s electrical construction industry. Demand continues to grow across infrastructure, energy, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, institutional construction, data centers, and other technology-driven projects—creating tremendous opportunity while placing new pressure on labor, schedules, costs, equipment, and supply chains.

Dr. Heather Moore of MCA will examine the current state of the industry, emerging market trends, and the challenges contractors should be preparing for in the months and years ahead. With the same electricians, supervisors, project managers, specialty trades, and resources being called upon to serve multiple high-growth markets, contractors must understand where demand is headed and how it will impact their businesses.

This session will provide industry leaders with a big-picture perspective and actionable insights to help inform workforce planning, operational strategy, and business development as we look toward 2027 and beyond.

From Field to Factory: How Offsite Construction Is Rewiring Our Industry - Lunch & Learn

The way we build is changing faster than at any point in our careers. Offsite construction, prefabrication, modular assemblies, and industrialized workflows, is moving from a “nice-to-have” edge to a core competitive strategy for electrical contractors. With data centers, advanced manufacturing, and electrification driving unprecedented demand against a tight labor market, the contractors who master offsite work will be the ones who win the bids, protect their margins, and keep their crews safe.

Join us for a lunch and learn where we’ll cut through the hype and get practical about where offsite construction stands today and where it’s headed. We’ll look at what leading contractors are already doing in their prefab shops, what the technology and workforce shifts mean for your business, and how to position your company to capture the upside rather than get left behind.

Whether you’re already running a prefab operation or just starting to think about it, you’ll walk away with a clearer picture of the road ahead and concrete ideas you can bring back to your team. Bring your questions, this workshop is built for conversation.

Covered or Not? Insurance Essentials for Electrical Contractors

Your insurance program is only as good as your understanding of it, and most contractors discover the gaps after the claim comes in. This program gives electrical contractors a working command of the commercial general liability policy: what counts as an occurrence, how the “your work” and related business risk exclusions operate on defect claims, why additional insured endorsements and certificates of insurance are not the same thing, and what primary and noncontributory language and waivers of subrogation actually do when a loss hits.

We will cover the interplay between your CGL coverage and the indemnity provisions in your subcontracts, common traps in upstream insurance requirements, and practical steps for tendering claims and protecting coverage from day one. The session closes with a focused look at workers’ compensation, including exclusivity, coverage of subcontractor employees, and how comp claims intersect with jobsite liability. Attendees will leave with a checklist for reviewing their own policies and the insurance provisions in the next contract they sign.
