A Company Built Across Generations

Started in 1980, A. Murphy Inc. is now in its second generation of ownership, helmed by Brian Murphy and Mike Murphy. The company’s approach is to provide a premier service with the most cost-effective products and installations, without sacrificing the highest level of quality, safety, and efficiency, which results in providing the client with solutions that exceed their expectations. Our ultimate goal is to build partnerships, enhance relationships, and strive to be the best at what we do every day.

A Diverse Crew Offering Diverse Services

Since the company’s inception, A. Murphy has prided itself on providing a diverse range of services, including Electrical Construction, Service Department, Solar and EVSP, and Low Voltage Systems (Audio Visual Systems, Security & Tel/Com). With a team of over 150 employees, including management, support staff, electricians and technicians, the firm maintains relationships with many important companies across Boston.

The firm also works with its employees to help them grow professionally. Murphy noted, “Education and training are key to the development of our employees and success of our company. Both Management and Field Staff are trained internally, as well as participating in NECA’s Educational Programs. Our collaborative approach to mentoring and team work has resulted in a deep roster of talented professionals we are proud to work with every day.”

Looking to the Future

After 30 years at our previous location, A. Murphy has moved to a new office space in Pembroke, MA, after completing a full renovation of the 15,000 square foot office space. The company is currently in development on a 5,000 square foot pre-fab and storage building.

About the new office space, Murphy said, "After multiple renovations and expansion projects at our previous location, our new space offers a much better work flow and an environment to collaborate. New Technology, AV Systems, & Sound Masking were also installed in the Conference Room, Training Room, Huddle Room and collaborative spaces. Our fitness room is frequently used for Bootcamp Fitness Classes to promote a positive culture and team building. Our intent is to have a culture and employee experience that inspires productivity and development of talent.”

Finding Value in Their NECA Boston Membership

As chair of the education committee and a NECA Boston board member, Murphy understands what a valuable resource professional associations can be, and this is especially true of NECA Boston. "NECA has been a tremendous resource for both our business and professional development efforts. The industry has experienced a significant number of changes over the last few years and NECA has been on the cutting edge supporting its members with real time information that effect our business operations. NECA’s new headquarters in Quincy is a great location and space for our management and electricians to participate in the education programs and training room,” Murphy said.

We are maintaining an active temporary fire alarm system while installing a brand new fire alarm system with a smoke control panel to service the stair pressurization HVAC equipment as well as elevator pressurization HVAC equipment.

300 Binney St.is a complex electric project that will require approximately 30 Electricians and a dedicated project management team. Our scope is heavily concentrated on new power distribution systems for both Core & Shell and Tenant Fit-out. The core/shell and tenant Fitout projects are being built at the same time; requiring project phasing and heavy coordination. The new Distribution Systems are complex and are being BIM coordinated with layouts using Trimble RTS (Robotic Total Stations) to allow for efficient installations on both projects.

“Working on both the Core & Shell and Tenant Fitout Projects concurrently can be challenging, however; the precon efforts and our dedicated project team of managers and electricians will be 100% focused on efficiency, quality, and safety every day to insure a successful project,” Murphy noted.
